Senator Marco Rubio says now-former presidential candidate Rand Paul should re-focus his efforts on getting re-elected to his Senate seat from Kentucky.
“Rand is someone I disagree with on a lot of issues, but as I said the other night at the debate, he actually believes strongly in what he stands for and I respect that,” Rubio told reporters in New Hampshire, praising the Kentucky senator for being a “true and real believer” for “the liberty issues.”
Rubio added that the liberty movement – championed by the Paul family – should be part of the Republican conservative coalition and added that he would welcome Paul’s support if he decided to endorse in the Republican primary.
That’s not likely to happen, as Rubio’s positions on surveillance authorities for the government are fundamentally opposed to principled tenants of the liberty cause.
But Rubio wished Paul well in his re-election race.
“I thought he ran a good race and obviously he is going to run for re-election to the Senate, and we wish him well in that endeavor,” he said.
Rubio, however, will not return to the Senate, as he decided not to not seek re-election after making the decision to run for president.
