On his Wednesday radio show, conservative talker and Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity interviewed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), a candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
During that interview, Hannity said it was his view that one day Rubio would be president.
“You know, I once predicted that you’re going to be president one day,” Hannity said. “I don’t know if you’re going to win this cycle, but I predicted it. I think you’re so young … I really can see it.”
Hannity, however, went on to press Rubio on his support for the controversial 2013 “Gang of Eight” comprehensive immigration reform and how that’s considered to be a knock on the presidential hopeful.
According to Rubio, it was something he supported given the Democratic control of the U.S. Senate and with the hopes the Republican-controlled House would improve upon. He added that he wouldn’t not be looking to implement similar legislation if he were commander-in-chief.
“I respect that,” Rubio replied. “We’re not doing it that way when I’m president. I’ve been very clear about that. That’s not the way we’re going to do it. That’s not the way I would have done it if I was president. That was the best we could do in a Harry Reid-controlled senate and the hope was the House would take it up and make it even better and move it in our direction. It didn’t work out that way because they never took it up. Not only are we not going to do it that way, no one is going to do it that way because quite frankly the American people don’t support a comprehensive approach to this issue.”
“Nothing is going to happen on immigration until we first bring immigration under control and seal our borders,” he continued. “Once that happens, we’ll see what the American people are willing to support.”
Rubio added it was his fear that President Barack Obama would ultimately issue an executive order bypassing Congress on immigration and he did what he could with the legislation with the hopes up avoiding that outcome.
