An agent from Immigration and Customs Enforcement has died from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run accident that occurred in Miami Beach, Florida.
Agent Scott McGuire was run down as he and another agent were hailing a cab early on the morning of January 15.
A woman driving a Mercedes, who was later identified as 21-year-old Jordana Rosales, jumped the curb and slammed into the two agents, seriously injuring agent McGuire and leaving the other officer with a broken leg.
Rosales told police she was making “a wide U-turn” and it was all just an unfortunate accident.
“I saw one person was laying on the floor, and I saw another guy was holding the side of his body,” a witness said at the time.
By Sunday, January 24, Agent McGuire had died from his injuries.
ICE released a statement upon the passing of its agent.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is saddened to announce that an ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agent who was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident Jan. 15 while on duty in Miami Beach, Florida, died as a result of his injuries Sunday at a South Florida hospital.
Befitting his selfless nature, the special agent was an organ donor, and although we are immeasurably diminished by his death, we can at least take some small comfort in knowing that his final act gave others the chance to live. ICE asks that you join us in keeping his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Agent McGuire leaves behind a wife of 20 years and a seven-year-old son.
The agent’s family set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the final expenses. Already, over $40,000 has been raised.
Rosales was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and posted $100,000 bond. She is on house arrest, but now that the agent has died, it is likely more charges are coming.
There has been no word on whether or not Rosales is a citizen, a naturalized citizen, or an illegal immigrant.
