Friday on HBO’s “Real Time” during the online-only “Overtime” segment, Rep. Alan Grayson (R-FL) doubled down on his threat to sue if Sen. Ted Cruz (R-FL) is the eventual Republican presidential nominee over Cruz’s ability to fulfill the constitutional obligations to be president.
“You are the one who is going to bring the lawsuit against Ted Cruz that Donald Trump keeps talking about?” host Bill Maher asked.
“If he’s the nominee, yeah,” Grayson replied.
“When Donald Trump says, ‘I’m not going to sue him, but the Democrats will,’ he means you,” Maher added, referring to Grayson.
“He actually mentioned me, yeah,” Grayson said.
Co-panelist Liz Mair, an outspoken critic of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, reacted by telling Grayson he was “crazy,” to which Grayson insisted forcing the Constitution to be upheld was not “crazy.”
“What’s not crazy is to defend the Constitution,” Grayson said. “It’s the Constitution we’re talking about here. The Constitution says if you’re less than 35 years old, you can’t be president. I’m sorry, but there are a lot of people less than 35 — Mark Zuckerberg’s is less than 35 years old. He can’t be president. George W. Bush, elected.”
