New Jersey Governor Chris Christie spoke at length about Donald Trump during a townhall meeting in Derry, New Hampshire after a voter complained to him about the billionaire’s popularity.
“When are you going to take the gloves off and start smacking him around?” the voter asked. “You don’t have much time.”
Christie replied that he wasn’t just in the presidential race to beat Donald Trump, but to be the next president of the United States. He then asked voters in New Hampshire to ask Trump just one question if they met him on the campaign trail.
“I tell everybody who goes to a Donald Trump event, “If you get to ask a question, just ask him ‘How?’” he said. “I don’t care which of the things he talks about just ask him, ‘How?’”
Christie argued that he was used to answering the “how” question, as a governor of a state.
“See I can answer ‘how?’ And I can answer ‘how?’ because I’ve done it,” he said. “You may not like my ‘how’ You may disagree with my ‘how … They can say, ‘I disagree with him.’ But not, ‘He doesn’t know.’”
Christie compared his experience as governor to that of Trump and other senators in the race like Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz. He also pointed out that Barack Obama had just about the same amount of experience, but messed up the country.
I would urge you to think about that when you’re considering Donald Trump or Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio because they’ve never done it,” he said. “So you’re going to turn over for a second time the most complex government the worlds every known to someone who has never run a government of any kind, of any size, in any way? They can be charming, you can agree with them philosophically and all the rest but they won’t be a nickel more effective.
