Christie on Not Attacking Trump: Those Selecting One Person to Attack ‘Are Only Just Hurting Themselves’

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ), a candidate for the GOP presidential nomination, explained why he’s not singling out Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump for attacks, unlike his fellow competitors are.

Christie argued that those who have done that have wound up hurting themselves and said it remained to be seen how Trump’s “unorthodox” methods would play out in the early primary contest in New Hampshire.

“You know, Willie, I’ve got to tell you, it’s so bunched up that I don’t think you can really pick,” Christie said. “And I think those people who have tried to select one person are only just hurting themselves. The one person that I’m going to focus on in the next 19 days is the guy who you see in the camera with the inordinate delay. It’s me.  That’s what I have to worry about over the next 19 days. And that’s – and that’s what I’m going to do because, listen, all – we’re all bunched up, whether it’s – whether it’s me or Marco, or Jeb, or John Kasich. We’re all bunched up in a group. Ted Cruz. We’re all bunched up. So, you know, let’s see who breaks out. And I think the way you break out, and Joe made this point about New Hampshire voters, they are incredible folks and you’ve got to come here and earn it. And I still am not quite sure exactly what’s going to happen with Donald Trump here either because he’s certainly doing something very unorthodox in terms of New Hampshire, campaigning different than everybody else. It may wind up working for him, it may not. We won’t know until February 9.”
