Police in Virginia are charging two men for the alleged rape of a woman in a hotel room. She was targeted, they say, because she is a foreign-speaking woman who works in the “escort” business and therefore was not expected to report the attack.

Arlington, Virginia, police charged Jose Euseibo Guevara-Rodriquez, 39, with rape, and Elmer Umberto Lopez-Velasquez, 38, with attempted rape after they were arrested on January 12.

Investigators say that the pair learned that the victim was “involved in escort-related activity” and followed her to her room in a South Arlington motel. After knocking on the door, police say the men forced their way inside and sexually molested the woman. They also threatened her with a weapon “to hold her against her will.”

Officials say the two stole the victim’s iPad and were found with the device when apprehended.

The victim said she did not know either suspect.

Department spokeswoman Ashley Savage said that the suspects were “acting suspiciously” and officers later stopped them as they left the motel. It was then the woman made her report.

Guevara-Rodriquez and Lopez-Velasquez were also charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, abduction with intent to defile, and resisting arrest. They are held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.

Police are asking the public to contact them at 703-228-4199 if anyone has knowledge as to whether either of the two committed crimes like this in the past. Tipsters can also email Gseibert@arlingtonva.us.
