President Barack Obama took aim at Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, going after Cruz with the same talking point that Marco Rubio uses in the Republican primary.
Obama referred to Cruz’s recent vow to “carpet bomb [ISIS] into oblivion” and find out if the sands of the Middle East can glow green.
“The world will look to us to help solve these problems, and our answer needs to be more than tough talk or calls to carpet bomb civilians. That may work as a TV sound bite, but it doesn’t pass muster on the world stage,” Obama said.
Obama’s line about Cruz’s “tough talk” is basically the same thing that Rubio says about Cruz on the stump.
“Talk is cheap. National security is not,” Rubio said at a recent campaign appearance in Iowa, reciting the Ted Cruz-themed portion of his ten-point stump speech.
Obama also went after Donald Trump with relish, explicitly slamming Trump’s comments on halting Muslim immigration to the United States.
