Hillary Clinton, the frontrunner for the Democrats’ 2016 presidential nomination, expressed interest in a virulently anti-Israel article written by a radical anti-Israel activist, and published in a Hezbollah-affiliated news site, while she was serving as Secretary of State.
The article, titled, “The Bibi Connection,” was published by Al-Akhbar, a Hezbollah-affiliated website, and was forwarded to Clinton by Sidney Blumenthal, a top unofficial advisor of Clinton’s.
The article was actually written by Blumental’s son, Max Blumenthal. The son has often been accused by Jewish advocacy groups of using anti-Semitic slurs in his articles.
In an email dated January, 21, 2012, and released to the public on New Year’s Eve 2015, Hillary described the piece as “interesting reading.”
A top State Department official, Jacob Sullivan, agreed, saying Blumenthal’s write up was “really fascinating.”
Max Blumenthal has described himself as anti-Zionist, meaning he does not recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish state in the land of Israel. His most recent work, “Goliath,” is a book “that makes even anti-Zionists blush,” according to the left-wing Forward.
Al-Akhbar, which featured his work, has been described by the New York Times as a newspaper that “backs various leftist causes and supports Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Shiite movement.”
Hezbollah, which has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States, is accused of carrying out the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing that killed 241 U.S. Marines. The group is also suspected of committing the 1983 U.S. embassy bombing in Beirut, which killed 63 people. Hezbollah is also accused of training Shiite militias to take up arms against U.S. forces in Iraq. The jihadi outfit swears allegiance to Iran, and has publicly called for the killing of Jews worldwide.
Other documents show Mrs. Clinton has taken a noted interest in Max Blumenthal’s writings. In another email, she requested that five copies of one of his articles be printed.
These new revelations come following the State Department’s New Year’s Eve document dump of some 5,000+ pages of material, much of which is not sorted and remains untitled.
The State Department announced Thursday that it would not meet a deadline to release at least 82 percent of the Clinton emails by the end of 2015.
“We have worked diligently to come as close to the goal as possible, but with the large number of documents involved and the holiday schedule we have not met the goal this month,” State Department press release said. “To narrow that gap, the State Department will make another production of former Secretary Clinton’s email sometime next week.”
