BBC: Obama Taking ‘Unilateral Action’ for ‘Common Sense Gun Laws’

The BBC reports that President Obama will take “unilateral action” next week to put “common sense gun laws” in place.

The outlet indicates that Obama was forced into taking this route as a last-ditch effort after Congress refused to do anything to expand gun control on law-abiding citizens.

In a July 2015 interview with BBC’s North America editor Jon Sopel, “Obama said a failure to tackle gun control had been the greatest frustration of his presidency.” And with only 12 months left in office, he is using his pen to do everything he can to leave a legacy of gun control.

BBC does not report anything new about Obama’s pending “unilateral action.” The big difference between its report and the reports of others who have warned of executive gun control is that the BBC is very frank about Obama’s motives: he is going around the constitutional check that Congress put on gun control in April 2013. In so doing, he will try to re-define what it means to be a gun seller in an attempt to expand background checks to cover individuals who currently sell guns from their private collections or who simply sell as a hobby.

This will indirectly provide new rules on some sales at gun shows.

Moreover, he appears posed to place new requirements on recognized gun dealers–people with a Federal Firearms License (FFL). The requirements relate to reporting lost or stolen guns.

Will either of these actions reduce high-profile shootings in America? No. But they will place a higher bureaucratic wall between law-abiding citizens and the guns they need for self-defense in a dangerous world.

Breitbart News previously reported that Obama will be meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch on January 4 to finalize his executive gun control actions.
