GOP presidential candidate former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum says the next president must have a plan to shake up Washington, D.C.

During an interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Stephen K. Bannon, Santorum adds: “We need a president who has a very bold plan to shake up Washington, D.C. but also understands how you work with people to get things done in that town.”

Bannon asked Santorum about the donor class saying that if outsiders won the Republican nomination, they would support Democrat frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

“These are folks that feed off the system. These are folks that like the system the way it is…moving toward more and more control,” he responded, saying if you’re someone who has profited from the political system, you don’t want someone who is going to change that system.

“We’ve seen this rallying around candidates who aren’t going to rock the boat”in the past elections, Santorum added.

They spin this on the electability…but here’s the problem, many many conservatives who sit there and watch Fox and listen to all these people who are part of the establishment…the experts…they’re very much part of this idea that we can’t really radically change things.

“The Republican Party that didn’t use to be the party of Congress, we were the party of the presidency,” he said, adding that when he came to Washington, D.C. in the 1990s, “we exposed corruption.”

Bannon asked Santorum how will he combat the last minute bills that have been rammed through and passed without Congress having time to read everything in the legislation.

“This is where real leadership matters,” he said. “One of the things that’s missing from Washington…[is to] sit down with them and have honest discussions.”

Santorum said a leader must “get everybody on the same page” and “develop real relationships.”

He added that it “doesn’t sound revolutionary,” but added that it would be revolutionary to have a team that can huddle and run the play, using a football analogy. “We need a president who has a very bold plan to shake up Washington, D.C. but also understands how you work with people to get things done in that town.”

“The greatness of Reagan was his ability to communicate a great message” to the American people. “You have to have the people to go out on television…and stand up for those principles and articulate them,” he explained.

Santorum used immigration as an example, explaining, “If you lay out a message to the American people about how workers in this country are disadvantaged, it’s a simple supply and demand issue.”

He said he is ready to lead this nation in a time of war, referencing the fight against the Islamic State terrorist group.

Santorum said President Obama’s foreign policy is to go along with the American public’s opinion “but there’s no overall vision.”

He said foreign policy should be “designed to keep us safe” but President Obama views foreign policy as a political move.

Santorum says the theology behind the war is important, and that the Islamic State listed Santorum as an enemy in the terrorist group’s magazine.

“The reason I was identified as an enemy was because I identified who they are,” he charged. “I went in and I understood their ideology.”
