Police were called to an altercation at a New York City bus union Christmas party after a black man called a white man a “piece of s**t” and then punched him because he brought a black woman as a date to the event.
The New York Daily News reported that the race-based altercation occurred on Saturday night at a hall associated with St. Cyril’s Catholic Church.
The event was sponsored by Transport Workers Union (TWU) members assigned to the Michael J. Quill Bus Depot.
The white victim does not work for the city bus system (MTA) but was invited to the party by his girlfriend’s mother who is a TWU member.
Police reports say that the white man was confronted by the black man in a bathroom during the party.
The black man reportedly said to the white man, “What if I tell you, you are a piece of s**t white man, taking our women.” The victim said the man then attacked him, causing minor injuries.
Police say the black girlfriend of the white party guest tried to intervene but to no avail.
Both the MTA and the TWU said they were not aware of the details of the incident but that it is under investigation.
It is said that the alleged attacker is a union member.
