Monday on NBC’s “Today,” Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump took aim at Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton for her claim that Trump was a recruiting tool for ISIS.
According to Trump, comparing his prior statements about celebrations by Muslims in the United States after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to Clinton’s rhetoric from Saturday was not a fair comparison because Trump argued what he said was factual, while what Clinton said was not factual.
“Well first of all, there is proof because many people saw that happen, Matt, as you know,” Trump said. “It was written about in The Washington Post and numerous other places. I’ve been totally exonerated from that. I’ve had headlines exonerating me saying ‘Trump was right.’ I can send you a Breitbart story. I can send you other stories. But as far as Hillary is concerned, she’s always been – whether it is Whitewater or the email scandal – she always lies. And now to be saying we’re in the perfect spot with respect to ISIS — I don’t think that’s a lie. I really don’t think she knows what she is doing. She’s been a mess no matter where she’s been. She’s created a mess. You look at her record as secretary of state.”
Trump went on to demand an apology from Clinton for statement and told host Matt Lauer he could be the messenger.
“Now I would say this Matt – I will demand an apology from Hillary, OK?” Trump said. “You can be the messenger. I will demand an apology from Hillary. She should apologize. She lies about emails. She lies about Whitewater. She lies about everything. She will be a disaster as president of the United States.”
