Former Canadian Armed Forces sniper and Ottawa City Councillor Jody Mitic joined Breitbart News Daily on Friday morning to discuss his new book Unflinching: The Making of a Canadian Sniper and how he battled back from a devastating war injury to forge a successful career in politics.

“We’re not necessarily angry. I know I’m not angry about a lot of things,” Mitic, who served three tours as a sniper in Afghanistan, said when asked whether Canadian veterans are infuriated by what’s happening south of the border in Washington, D.C.

“I try to remember that we volunteered for a job. And I loved that job, I did that job and it was the best job I ever had,” he added. “When I was sent somewhere, it was at the whim of the government that was elected by the people.”

Mitic then discussed his book Unflinching, published in September by Simon and Schuster:

The book is about my career in the Canadian Armed Forces, from a green private right up to a master sniper, leading my team in Afghanistan to stepping on an anti-personnel landmine and losing both my feet and battling my way back from that—trying to figure out who I am if I’m not a soldier, if I’m not a sniper. Starting a family with one of the medics that helped saved my life; I got two beautiful little girls, and a nice house, and a great life now, and I also managed to get myself elected to the city council here in Ottawa, where I try to help the people around me as best as I can… and the book was the hardest thing I’ve ever done despite all the amazing things I did in the military, and it was also one of the most healing things I’ve ever done because of what happened.

“A lot of guys could have just thrown the towel in, but you battled back and not just battled back, but started a family and also got engaged in politics,” Breitbart News Daily host Stephen K. Bannon told Mitic. “Keep fighting, Jody, cause I know you’re going to make a great politician up there, and we need all the veterans we can to get involved in the process, whether it’s the United States or Canada.”

“I agree, and the last thing I guess I’ll say is the more of us [veterans] that get involved, the more of us are making the calls,” Mitic said.

Look out for Breitbart News’s exclusive interview with Jody Mitic coming Monday.
