On Tuesday’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough castigated Republican voters for being duped by “lies” from GOP candidates every election cycle.
Scarborough alluded to promises to balance the budget while cutting taxes and increasing defense spending, to repeal ObamaCare and what he deemed to be the newest lie, which is Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s proposal to put a temporary halt on Muslims attempting to enter the United States.
Scarborough’s panel went on to point out that the other candidates were reluctant to confront Trump, to which Scarborough suggested if it were former President George W. Bush facing off against Trump, then things would be much different compared to how Bush’s younger brother, former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL), another candidate for the 2016 GOP nomination, is handling Trump.
“Everybody thinks that this is so institutional and it’s baked in the cake,” Scarborough said. “There’s a reason why one Bush, Jeb, can’t knock Trump done,” Scarborough said. “But another Bush – a guy named George W., has the same policies – swear to God would stare at him for five seconds. Are you kidding me? I mean W. has this very strong persona. Trump was never going to be tougher than George W. Bush on the campaign trail. And he would have cut him to little pieces. And Jeb can’t do it. Or do it with a look, like [he] did with Al Gore. It comes down to a person, Mika. And that person is just not there right now.”
