GOP presidential candidate former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee responded to GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country until officials develop a reliable vetting process, saying it “is impossible” to ban all Muslims because terrorists will lie about their religion to get into the United States.
“If you’re willing to strap a bomb to the belly of your child to kill Americans, then you’re willing to lie about your religion. A ban on Muslims is impossible to enforce because Islamic terrorists will tell whatever lie they can to enter this country to kill more Americans,” Huckabee said in a statement on Wednesday. “And it’s simply unconstitutional to ban people on the basis of religion.”
Huckabee added, “Instead, we need an all-in, effective way to screen foreigners and keep Americans safe because radical Islamic terrorism is the real threat.”
In his statement, Huckabee lined out what he would do if he were President of the United States to tackle the threat of terrorists entering the country:
First, we must immediately pause ALL visas for travelers and tourists from any country with a significant ISIS or al-Qaeda presence.
Second, we must reject all Syrian refugees to America and focus on destroying ISIS and getting these folks back to their homes.
Third, we must immediately secure our borders and build the southern border fence with Mexico today.
Lastly, Republicans in Washington must hold Obama’s feet to the fire. For once, they must stand strong and reject Obama’s power-play on refugees.
“It’s time for Obama to stop obsessing over meteorology, oceanology and gun control and start focusing on the real threat facing America,” Huckabee concluded.
