News outlets in Pennsylvania report that a Facebook post showing the photo of a 10-point buck shot by Sister John Paul Bauer has apparently been “removed.”

Bauer, who lives in Saint Mary’s, posted the photo after shooting the buck on the opening day of hunting season.

According to WPXI, Bauer is former Navy and said she “waited in her tree stand for about three hours for a deer to come near her.” During the wait she prayed the Rosary and said “several deer arrived, including two bucks.” She shot the larger of the two.

Bauer said, “I’ve always prayed the Rosary on the tree stand. That’s a tradition.  You get up in the morning, you pray the Rosary in the tree stand. So, I just think the Blessed Mother did smile upon me.”

She talked about finding “something spiritual about hunting,” and how she loves the quiet that comes with being in the stand as the sunlight cuts through the trees to start another day.

Bauer posted a photo of herself and the deer on the Diocese of Erie Facebook page but it “appears to have [been] removed.”
