In a Sunday night address to the nation that will cement his legacy as a feckless failure in the War on Terror, President Obama demanded the power to strip Muslim-Americans of their civil rights. “To begin with,” Obama said, “Congress should act to make sure no one on a no-fly list is able to buy a gun.” Most on this list are Muslim, and without due process Obama would deny them their Second Amendment rights. To deflect from his un-American, anti-Muslim bigotry, Obama lit this straw man on fired to smear everyone else as bigots [emphasis]:
Here’s what else we cannot do. We cannot turn against one another by letting this fight be defined as a war between America and Islam. That, too, is what groups like ISIL want. ISIL does not speak for Islam. They are thugs and killers, part of a cult of death, and they account for a tiny fraction of more than a billion Muslims around the world — including millions of patriotic Muslim Americans who reject their hateful ideology. …
But just as it is the responsibility of Muslims around the world to root out misguided ideas that lead to radicalization, it is the responsibility of all Americans — of every faith — to reject discrimination. It is our responsibility to reject religious tests on who we admit into this country. It’s our responsibility to reject proposals that Muslim Americans should somehow be treated differently. Because when we travel down that road, we lose. That kind of divisiveness, that betrayal of our values plays into the hands of groups like ISIL. Muslim Americans are our friends and our neighbors, our co-workers, our sports heroes — and, yes, they are our men and women in uniform who are willing to die in defense of our country. We have to remember that.
Homeland Security’s no-fly list is a proxy Muslim Registry. Considering the domestic threat we face, this makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is depriving Muslim-Americans of their civil right to own a firearm simply because the government finds them suspicious.
We don’t do that in this country. It is un-American. Due process is the cornerstone of our democracy and I can think of nothing more fascist than allowing our federal government, especially one that reports to this petty and lawless president, the power to unilaterally strip an American of their rights with the stroke of a pen.
The American citizens on the no-fly list are obviously not enough of a threat to be indicted, so why then would we treat them or any American as a guilty party based only on suspicion?
There are 700,000 people on this list. Through the years, a number of innocent people have been placed on this list, including Senator Ted Kennedy and Weekly Standard journalist Steve Hayes. Moreover, there is no appeal process that allows you to get yourself removed from this list.
What gall, though, Obama has to on one hand propose a lawless Second Amendment internment camp aimed primarily at Muslims while imperiously talking down to the everyday American people as though we’re the bigots.
His smear is also anti-science. According to the latest figures from his own F.B.I., 56.8% of religious hate crimes last year were directed at Jews, while hate crimes against Muslim were less than a third of that at 16.1%.
Moreover, 19.6% of hate crimes were directed at religions outside of the Jewish and Muslim faiths.
In a country of close to 325 million people, there were 183 hate crimes committed against Muslims last year.
Obama, however, would unilaterally strip hundreds of thousands of Muslims of their civil rights, just because…
Who’s the real bigot here?
