Breaking: Obama Preparing Oval Office Address in Response to Islamic State

President Obama will deliver a rare televised address to the nation from the Oval Office on Sunday, in response to the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and in San Bernardino, California.

This is the first sign that the Obama White House is preparing to address the threat of terrorism seriously after appearing reluctant to define the attack in California as terrorism.

Obama has only delivered two other televised Oval Office addresses during his presidency. In June 2010, he delivered a speech detailing the national response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill in response to weeks of negative press coverage of his handling of the situation. In August 2010, he delivered an address to signal the end of U.S. combat operations in Iraq.

The White House press office announced that Obama will provide an “update” on what they described as the “tragic attack” in California during his speech, which he will deliver on Sunday at 8:00 P.M. EST.

On Saturday, Obama admitted in a radio address that “several pieces” of information “point to the perpetrators being radicalized to violence.”

ISIS announced on Saturday that the couple that shot and killed 14 people in the attack were their followers.

“The President will also discuss the broader threat of terrorism, including the nature of the threat, how it has evolved, and how we will defeat it,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement.

Obama will also talk about his “firm conviction” that the Islamic State will be destroyed and how Americans must hold true to their values in order to prevail over terrorism, according to the White House.
