Lisa Aldrich in Caledonia, MI, needed a bakery worker at Meijer to write on a birthday cake.
The lady took the cake to the back, wrote “Happy Birthday Mandy” on it, and handed it back to Aldrich. She took the cake without looking at it, but was surprised when she went to the checkout lanes.
The writing did not bother her, but the cashiers thought a manager should look at it.
“To my surprise, after they discussed it, one cashier put her arm on my shoulder and said ‘the girl who wrote that has autism. Thank you for smiling and thanking her — even though she’s not supposed to write on cakes, you probably made her day,’” she wrote. “So I guess the moral of the story is that kindness is important!”
The post went viral, which caused a few people to raise their eyebrows. Aldrich insists it is not a publicity stunt.
