President Obama is convinced that the American people will elect another Democrat to succeed him.

During a press conference in Paris, he was asked by reporters whether he was concerned about the possibility that his climate agenda would be reversed by a potential Republican president.

“Let me first of all say I’m anticipating a Democrat succeeding me,” Obama replied. “I’m confident in the wisdom of the American people on that front.”

Obama added that even if he was succeeded by a Republican, they would find it difficult to turn back on the world just to please the United States.

“American leadership involves not just playing to a narrow constituency back home but you now are in fact at the center of what happens around the world and that your credibility and America’s ability to influence events depends on taking seriously what other countries care about,” he said.

Obama boasted that the climate change summit in Paris was “the largest gathering of world leaders probably in human history” and was the result of American leadership on the issue.

He appeared annoyed that Republicans continued to block his climate change agenda, when countries and political parties in Europe believed in climate change.

“You know sometimes it may be hard for Republicans to support something that I’m doing but, you know, that’s more a matter of the games Washington plays,” he said.
