Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is bashing GOP presidential candidates Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Dr. Ben Carson for denying that climate change poses a threat.
“There’s one of them who was a surgeon, unfortunately at Johns Hopkins, who doesn’t believe in science,” Bloomberg, also a Hopkins alum, told CNN. “Somebody said ‘That’s like a business executive that doesn’t believe in profits.’”
Bloomberg, who has hopped from political party to political party as a former Democrat, then Republican, then Independent, also went after Cruz, saying the Texas Senator says the “stupidest things.”
“You’ve got a guy like Ted Cruz — who, I think, [top lawyer Alan] Dershowitz said was the smartest law student he ever had — and he says some of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard,” challenged Bloomberg.
“The only explanation, the only explanation, is he doesn’t believe it. He’s just saying it. Ted Cruz is a smart guy, and you can’t say what he says in an intelligent way,” he added.
According to the New York Post, the Carson campaign didn’t comment on Bloomberg’s remarks.
But a Cruz spokesperson said Bloomberg was an out-of-touch elitist.
“The myopic Mr. Bloomberg should get past his armed guards and cloistered circumstances and take a big gulp of reality,” said Cruz spokesperson Rick Tyler. “Everything Ted Cruz says is just common sense. Everything Mr. Bloomberg says defies logic.”
