In less than 24 hours, Breitbart News readers purchased all 3,500 of the limited edition “Merry Christmas” coffee tumblers and raised over $14,000 for Wreaths Across America, a charity whose mission is to coordinate “wreath laying ceremonies on a specified Saturday in December at Arlington, as well as veterans cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.”
The announcement of the cups kicked off the Monday show of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily. The audience was into the product from the beginning and the show experienced heavy call volume right after Wreath’s Across America’s Executive Director Karen Worchester came on to discuss the charity’s mission.
Worcester says Breitbart’s decision to donate 100% of the proceeds from cup sales will spread more than just Christmas cheer this holiday season.
“The families of those who have served and died want us to remember not that their loved ones died but that they lived,” said Worcester. “And it is life that they sacrificed. Thank you for supporting the mission.”
Breitbart’s President and CEO, Larry Solov, said, “The military always had a special place in Andrew’s heart when we founded Breitbart News. Andrew used to live adjacent to the Veterans Cemetery in Westwood, California, and would watch as soldiers were interred. On Memorial Day, Boy Scouts would place American Flags on every grave. This had a profound impact on him. We couldn’t be more proud to give the proceeds to a charity that honors our fallen soldiers.”
The red Breitbart coffee tumblers—a tongue-in-cheek response to Starbucks’ decision to remove Christmas symbols from its cups—were the inaugural product offering for the Breitbart Store, launching in early 2016.
