On November 30, NBC News reported that Leyonte Chandler—brother of Colorado Springs shooting victim Ke’Arre Stewart—is not mad at shooting suspect Robert Lewis Dear but at laws that allow citizens to be armed.

Stewart was allegedly shot and fatally wounded by Dear upon stepping out of the Planned Parenthood clinic to get a better cell signal. He ran back into the clinic to warn others before succumbing to his wounds.

According to NBC News, Stewart’s brother—Chandler—says he does not harbor “resentment or anything” toward Dear. Rather, he says he has “[forgiven] him.” Chandler said, “It’s a hard pill to swallow because [Dear] took my only brother from me.” He said the anger he feels is not toward Dear but toward laws that allow citizens to be armed.

Chandler’s exact words, “My anger is not toward him, toward the gunmen… my anger is toward the laws that allow things like this to happen: the gun laws. When you allow people to carry firearms at their own will it makes a breeding ground for destruction and tragedy.”
