The National Football League’s Washington Redskins, upset the twitterverse Thursday morning when they tweeted “Happy Thanksgiving” from their official account.
Many members of Congress have been urging the Redskins to change their name because they say it is offensive to Native Americans.
In September Senate Minority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) blasted National Football League commissioner, Roger Goodell, for not changing the name. President Obama has weighed in on the team’s name saying that it harbors “racial stereotypes.”
According to a 2014 Associated Press poll, only 14 percent of Native Americans believe that the Redskins should change their team’s name, while 83 percent believe that they should keep the name.
