The man from whom California Department of Justice (DOJ) agents confiscated 500 guns and over 100,000 rounds of ammunition says he did not know he was in the state’s mental health database and that the DOJ broke a promise to keep his name concealed until he had time to ascertain if he should be in the database.
Breitbart News previously reported that the guns and ammo were seized from the home of 59-year-old Albert Sheakalee, who once possessed a Federal Firearms License (FFL), which he recently lost. And ABC 30 reported that Sheakalee was “institutionalized three times” for mental health treatment this year, which means he forfeits his right to keep and bear arms in the state of California.
But Sheakalee–speaking through his attorney Mark Coleman–is saying there is more to story.
According to the Fresno Bee, Coleman said “agents promised to keep the raid on Sheakalee’s home confidential until after a court hearing to determine whether he is mentally fit to own guns.” And although ABC 30 indicates that the hearing isn’t until next month, Coleman says “Attorney General Kamala Harris issued a news release about the raid, and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office released Sheakalee’s name and booking mug to the media.”
