Radio-host Laura Ingraham is blasting newly installed House Speaker Paul Ryan “for buying into Barack Obama’s argument to reject sensible curbs to Muslim immigration.”
Ryan is “using the language of a President who despises middle America and thinks the U.S. is a rotten, horrible, dark, country,” she said.
“(T)he tactics Ryan is employing here – declaring falsely that his legislation will implement a so-called ‘pause’ to the refugee resettlement program – is a fig-leaf and is no different than the rhetoric he used during the 2013 Gang of Eight immigration expansion push,” she said.
Ingraham was focused on Ryan’s effort to pass a bill that adds paperwork-requirements to President Barack Obama’s effort to bring in many more Muslim migrants. Many Conservatives dismiss his bill as an insignificant obstacle to Obama’s plans.
If “fuzzy-minded Republicans like Paul Ryan continue to be more concerned with being politically correct and more worried about what the New York Times editorial board thinks rather than carrying out the will of the American people, the nation will find itself waking up to the same danger that now exists in Europe,” she said on her show today.
A partial transcript is below:
Ingraham: Paul Ryan had an opportunity as a new Speaker of the House to tell conservatives that he was with them and that he was going to have a full and fair airing of the differences. He promised that. He promised that it was going to be a new way forward on disagreements within the Party.
And, while it sounds good on the surface that Paul Ryan wants a pause and says well, ‘We’re going to have four people verify that these are not a security risk.’ He goes on to use the language of the Left, ‘We can’t have a religious test,’ he said. ‘We can’t have a religious test.’ Why would you use Obama’s phrasing unless you were more worried about what the New York Times editorial board, or the elites at the Council on Foreign Relations, thought about you, than what you were about what your own people thought of you?
The people of this country who spoke out in a poll yesterday – 52 percent, 53 percent – saying they don’t want this. These refugees? They don’t want them. They want to take care of business at home. Or the individuals who just hoped they would have a Republican speaker of the House who didn’t feel the need to form common cause, even rhetorically, with Barack Obama. This is an opportunity for the Republicans to grow their party. Grow the movement of sanity in Washington, common sense. But, when given the chance, Paul Ryan moves to defeat reasonable amendments to this. Reasonable amendments from such people as Congressman Brian Babin from Texas. And, his amendment would have stopped the immigration.
Paul Ryan puts a so-called ‘pause,’ which doesn’t really pause it, because you know the administration can come up with some type of verification that on the surface will look fine. How many of you trust this administration to vet anyone? On what basis? Are they going to vet them as well as they vetted those Somalians who went up to Minnesota and then went back to fight with the Islamists in Africa? As well as they vetted the [Boston-based] Tsarnaev family? That same vetting, really? That worked out really well for us, didn’t it. We’re going to trust this administration?
By the way, the same guy who looked down his nose and attacked Paul Ryan to his face a few years ago. You think Paul Ryan would learn after that. Obama just despises you, and frankly he despises middle America. He cannot stand middle America. He thinks it’s a rotten, horrible, dark, horrible country. That’s what Obama believes. He despises the American understanding so much that he goes over to the Philippines and he trashes half of the governors of the United States of America. And, Paul Ryan is going to use his language?
[Ryan] is offering a fig leaf. And, it’s much like the immigration debate when on the surface it seems like this is going to be good because now there’s going to be these levels of verification, just like with immigration. They’re going to have to learn English, pay back taxes, pay a fine, it’s all going to be verified. Then you realize there’s all this discretion that the executive branch retains in immigration to wave people into the country. Same deal with this.
Andrew McCarthy has written a great piece, ‘Assimilation-Resistant Muslims Are the Real Refugee Problem.’ ‘The jihad is raging in Paris. President Hollande repeatedly declares that France is at war, and press reporting has highlighted the French military’s combat operations against ISIS in Syria. But what the French are most worried about — and what the Obama-friendly media are happy to gloss over while the president is pushing to import thousands of Middle Eastern Muslims into our country — is fifth-column activity, meaning French Islamists supportive of violent jihadists…So, why did the jihadists end up in Saint-Denis? Because it is a notorious Islamic enclave, though you wouldn’t know it from the mainstream American media. The terrorists are in Saint-Denis because they know they have the support — or at least the indulgence — of a large, studiously assimilation-resistant Muslim population…. Looking at the entire department of Seine-Saint-Denis (which includes the aforementioned suburb where the terrorists were staying), the research paper,’ which he notes in this report, ‘noted that, out of a population of 1.4 million, there are 600,000 Muslims, mostly immigrants from North and West Africa. France — which now has 6.5 million Muslims (the largest Muslim population in the European Union) — is on the brink of a major social explosion because of the failure of Muslims to integrate into French society… A third of the population of the town does not hold French nationality, and many residents are drawn to an Islamic identity. It goes on.
This is a disturbing story about what happened to France… We cannot allow fuzzy-minded Republican thinking, trying to look politically correct- [declare] ‘We can’t have a religious test.’ How many of those Christian refugees have plotted against their homeland or plotted against our fellow citizens? How many of them, Paul?”
