An ABC TV station is reporting that the House Judiciary chairman, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, wants a one-year moratorium on Syrian refugees — but the GOP leaders’ plan does not include any moratorium.
“I think there should be a one-year moratorium on Syrian refugees coming into the United States until we have a system that we know is foolproof and know can work,” Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) said, according to WRIC.com, a Richmond, Va., ABC station.
Instead of the moratorium, the GOP plan calls for more paperwork.
“The bill requires the nation’s top security officials—the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of the FBI, and the Director of National Intelligence—to certify before admitting any Syrian or Iraqi refugee into the United States that the individual does not represent a security threat,” said a statement from Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.
The GOP’s leaders have scheduled a Thursday vote on the McCaul bill.
Goodlatte is the chairman of the House Judiciary committee, and is a former immigration lawyer. His spokesman, Jessica Collins, has not responded to Breitbart News.
