Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is the latest in a growing list of governors who have rejected Obama’s plan to allow Syrian refugees into the United States.

On Monday, Hogan was cautious about making a decision, telling reporters that: “We have been in contact with the Obama administration.”We are going to make a very reasoned and careful decision about what we do here in Maryland.”

But in a statement released Tuesday, Hogan said that he had decided against the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Maryland.

“As governor of Maryland, the safety and security of Marylanders remains my first priority. Following the terrorist attacks on Paris just four days ago, and after careful consideration, I am now requesting that federal authorities cease any additional settlements of refugees from Syria in Maryland until the U.S. government can provide appropriate assurances that refugees from Syria pose no threat to public safety.”

The number of governors who oppose the resettlement of Syrian refugees in their states continues to climb. Opponents of Obama’s refugee plan point to the Paris attacks on Friday as a reason to be wary of Syrian refugees.

At least one of the terrorists involved in the attack had entered Europe pretending to be a Syrian refugee.
