Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) signals that he may side with Republicans in a push to “pause” Syrian refugees from being resettled in the United States.
Schumer’s move was noted by an NPR reporter who posted on Twitter:
President Barack Obama has repeatedly called for tens of thousands of Syrian refugees to be resettled in the U.S.
But roughly 30 state governors have been vocal about not wanting to allow Syrian refugees in their states, following the terrorist attack in Paris. At least one of the terrorists was allowed in through the refugee program.
Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) signaled on Tuesday that he is willing to pause the Syrian refugee resettlement program, as it is better to be safe than sorry.
