Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino is mulling over his political options in Florida, as the newly-minted resident of the Sunshine State may be eyeing the wide-open 2016 Republican Senatorial primary race.
Dan Bongino, who lost his 2014 congressional race in Maryland by 1.2 percentage points, has already said that he would not run for Congress in Florida’s 18th congressional district where he lives. He believes that combat veteran Brian Mast and his “inspiring story” of survival and American perseverance is a story that needs to be told and is supportive of his campaign.
The latest St. Leo University poll shows that the Republican primary race is a virtual toss up, as frontrunner Rep. David Jolly (9 percent) only holds a 2 percent advantage over Rep. Ron DeSantis (7 percent), and a 4 percent advantage over former Special Forces veteran Todd Wilcox (5 percent).
Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera garnered 4 percent support, while activist and consummate politician Ilya Katz rounded out the field with 3 percent.
When I asked what his next political move would be, Bongino hinted at possibly running for the U.S. Senate in 2018. Then, when I asked him if he would consider running for the Senate in 2016, Bongino simply said, “I’m looking at all of my options,” but then he added that he was not going to comment any further on any possible future political runs for office.
