On his Friday radio show, Rush Limbaugh attacked a Politico story published earlier in the day that suggested Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson fabricated parts of his personal story detailed in his autobiography “Gifted Hands,” particularly regarding a claim of receiving scholarship offer to the U.S. Military Academy of West Point.
According to Limbaugh, the Politico story was akin to NBC’s 2012 editing of a 911 call made by George Zimmerman during the Trayvon Martin controversy.
“This is right up there with NBC’s editing of the 911 call,” Limbaugh said. “This is worse than that, but it is right up there with NBC editing the 911 call in the Zimmerman case to make it look like Zimmerman was a flat-out racist, when the race of Trayvon Martin was the last – he had to be asked about it. He did not volunteer it contrary to the editing NBC did of the 911 tape.”
“Here’s what Politico wrote in its lede: ‘Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted in a response to an inquiry from Politico that a central point of his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.’ He didn’t fabricate it. They want you to believe he applied and attended. His books and the campaign manager quoted in the story admit that he didn’t apply. Therefore he couldn’t have attended. This is base journalistic malpractice.”
