In South Carolina, La’Darious Wylie, 11, pushed his sister out of the way of an oncoming car, which then struck and killed him.
“He knew to look out for her,” said Elizabeth McCrorey, their mother.
Wylie passed away on October 28 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. McCrorey decided to donate “his organs so that other children might survive illness or injury.”
Authorities charged driver Michelle Johnson, 57, “with felony hit and run resulting in death.” She faces 25 years in prison. She reportedly did not stop, attempt to stop, or even call authorities after she hit the child.
“I don’t hate her – I just wish she had stopped,” said McCrorey.
The funeral is at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
People within the community want to name a local park after the heroic boy. Wylie often played at the Brooklyn Park, which is down the street from where he was hit.
“It would be an honorable way to remember him,” said Chester County Supervisor Shane Stuart.
