NEW YORK CITY, New York — GOP presidential candidate and real estate mogul Donald Trump said the Democrat’s frontrunner Hillary Clinton got “softballs” in terms of debate questions.
“She wasn’t asked one tough question. They didn’t talk about her foundation. They didn’t talk about any of the problems.”
Her competitor – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) – effectively ended his campaign when he dismissed Clinton’s email scandal and her using a private server during her time as Secretary of State, Trump said.
“They didn’t talk about emails when the email problem came up. Bernie Sanders lost his whole campaign. I mean what he did was so stupid from his standpoint. In order to get a one-minute soundbite and some applause, he gave up the emails. That was the end of his campaign.”
“I don’t really care that much,” Trump said during a press conference Tuesday when questioned about debate formats.
“I want a room. I want a podium and lets get going because I don’t really care that much. But a lot of the people that are candidates, who I respect many of them – not all of them – but I respect many of them, they felt it was very unfair because Hillary Clinton was given all softballs.”
Trump was referring to the backlash over the CNBC debate moderators from last week’s debate who were criticized for their left leaning questions to the Republican candidates.
He said several issues on the economy didn’t come up that he thought the candidates should have been asked about them.
“We didn’t talk about trade. We didn’t talk about devaluations. We didn’t talk about corporate inversions,” Trump said, explaining that’s where companies are leaving the United States and creating jobs in other countries.
“Instead, they talked about fantasy football,” Trump challenged. “I’m saying, ‘What about corporate inversions!?’”
