First Lady Michelle Obama is currently on a new trip overseas to promote her “Let Girls Learn” initiative but she took some time to visit American troops at a base in Qatar – bringing with her comedian Conan O’Brien.
“It’s not every day I get to say I was hanging out in a sports bar with the First Lady tonight,” O’Brien said, during the event with the first lady.
But O’Brien served another role – as People Magazine published an interview that he conducted with the First Lady on the long flight.
When O’Brien asked her if she was ever tempted to take a military tank or an airplane for a “spin,” she protested.
“Absolutely not. It would be inappropriate for a First Lady to even think about something like that,” she replied. “And of course, it would be totally out of line for her to talk about it in a magazine. So I’m sticking with ‘absolutely not.'”
During the visit with the troops in Qatar, Michelle Obama explained to the troops that even though they requested ice cream, a visit from Conan O’Brien was probably better.
“I try to make sure that I visit any base that’s anywhere in the world that I can get to so I can see you guys, touch you guys,” she said. “I want to bring some love from home, whatever we can do.”
Obama indicated that she would continue supporting the troops, even after she was no longer in the White Hosue.
“It’s something I’m going to do for the rest of my life,” she promised. “First Lady years are going to be behind me soon, but then, look out. I’ll have more time to come and hang out with you guys I guess.”
