On October 13, Breitbart News reported that Wisconsin state representative Jesse Kremer (R-Kewaskum) and state senator Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) are pushing a bill to expand campus carry into college buildings and classrooms in Wisconsin and to change it from strictly open carry to concealed carry as well.

On November 2, Governor Scott Walker’s (R) press secretary Laurel Patrick told Breitbart News that Walker “supports laws that make it easier for law-abiding citizens to access firearms and [more] difficult for criminals to obtain illegal firearms.” She said, “[Walker] will review the legislation if it gets to his desk.”

It should be noted that Walker has a proven track record of supporting self-defense and concealed carry. After all, Breitbart News previously reported that it was Walker who signed Castle Doctrine legislation into law in 2011, which recognizes and protects one’s right to self-defense in one’s home, business, or other abode. Walker also signed concealed carry into law in 2011 as well.

The Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reported that Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. weighed in on Kremer and LeMahieu’s campus carry legislation by suggesting it will push lawmakers and law enforcement toward a discussion that needs to be underway anyhow. Clarke said, “Restricting a person’s constitutional right to defend themselves anywhere, I find it to be unconscionable. The only person who’s safe in a gun-free zone is the mass murderer.”

Ironically, Kremer and LeMahieu’s legislation was introduced just under two weeks after a “mass murderer” carried out a heinous attack on students and a professor in a gun-free zone at Umpqua Community College (UCC) in Roseburg, Oregon. The UCC attack was a repeat of numerous attacks witnessed on gun-free college campuses over recent years—campuses that included Florida State University in November 2014, Purdue University in January 2014, and Virginia Tech University in 2007, among others.
