The new Speaker of the House, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), is building a communications team to combat an increasing amount of press inquiries now that Ryan is the highest ranking member in the House of Representatives.
Ryan’s spokesperson told Breitbart News that Ryan’s team may end up being larger than former House Speaker John Boehner’s team.
“It may end up a little bigger than Boehner’s. The speaker has pledged to make communicating a conservative vision a greater priority in this speakership,” Buck stated.
Politico reports Ryan has already made eight new hires for his communications team and is expected to hire roughly a dozen staffers for the department.
According to Politico:
Brendan Buck, who worked for Ryan on the Ways and Means Committee and for former Speaker John Boehner, will run the operation. The other additions are:
* Mike Ricci, another former Boehner hand, will be communications director.
* AshLee Strong, who has worked for Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential campaign, will serve as press secretary.
* Sarah Swinehart, who worked for Ways and Means and Boehner’s press operation, will be director of media affairs.
* Doug Andres, a former Rules Committee staffer and Ryan aide, will be the press secretary for White House press.
* Caleb Smith will be digital communications director.
* Molly Edwards will be deputy press secretary.
* Vanessa Day will be senior communications adviser.
* Brian Bolduc will be Ryan’s director of speechwriting.
If Ryan ends up hiring a dozen staffers for his communications team, that will be just one more employee than former Speaker of the House Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) had in 2010, according to a past report from Roll Call.
