The FBI agent who was shot Thursday night during the service of a warrant in the Texas panhandle was shot by a fellow law enforcement officer. The FBI agent is still in a Lubbock, Texas hospital where he is recovering from his wound.
Breitbart Texas reported that FBI Special Agent Mike Orndorff was shot while assisting the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) during the service of an arrest warrant. During the warrant service, “an incident happened,” according to DPS Sergeant Bryan Witt. No further information was released at that time.
Breitbart Texas has since confirmed that Special Agent Orndorff was accidentally shot by a special agent with the DPC Criminal Investigations Division.
“The preliminary information indicates that the FBI agent was accidentally shot by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Division (CID) special agent,” Sgt. Witt wrote in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas Friday night. “DPS Texas Rangers, DPS CID special agents and FBI agents were all on scene as part of the investigation.”
The suspect who was arrested remains unidentified amd is currently being held in the Crosby County Jail, Witt said. Information about what charges the person was arrested under have also not been disclosed.
Sgt. Witt also confirmed during a phone interview with Breitbart Texas that Special Agent Orndorff was doing better on Friday, but was still in critical condition. This writer also spoke with a spokesman for the hospital where Special Agent Orndorff is recovering who could only confirm that the agent was receiving treatment at the hospital. No further information on his condition or the extent of his wounds has been released.
Witt said the FBI and DPS are coordinating efforts in the investigation of this incident. The DPS CID special agent is on voluntary paid leave at this time.
