The newly elected Speaker Paul Ryan may have called for bipartisanship in the House of Representatives, but his respect for the Democratic minority does not appear to include hugs.
Ryan received the gavel from Pelosi after winning the majority of the votes for Speaker.
After handing him the Speaker’s gavel, Pelosi reached up with her arm as if to embrace Ryan, but the Wisconsin representative appeared to ignore it in favor of a firm handshake.
Watch the video below:
“Thank you Nancy,” Ryan said, after receiving the gavel.
Giving power to the other party is never easy, but House Speaker John Boehner comforted Pelosi with a quick hug and even a gentlemanly kiss to her when he received the gavel in January.
