Obama to USWNT, America: Playing Soccer Like a Girl Means You’re a ‘Badass’

While addressing the reigning Women’s Gold Cup winners at the White House Tuesday, President Barack Obama praised the United States Women’s National Team for their victory, as well as for being the most ever watched soccer match, men’s or women’s, in United States history.

“This team taught all of America’s children that ‘playing like a girl’ means you’re a badass,” Obama said. “Perhaps I shouldn’t have used that phrase. ‘Playing like a girl’ means being the best. It means drawing the largest TV audience for a soccer match, men or women’s, in U.S. history. It means wearing the nation’s crest on your jersey, taking yourself to the top of the world. That’s what American women do, that’s what American girls do”
