Friday on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” Republican presidential candidate and former Sen.Rick Santorum (R-PA) said his rival Dr. Ben Carson is overtaking Donald Trump in the Iowa polls because people are getting to know Trump better and “having second thoughts.”
When asked why he feels Trump is falling behind in Iowa, Santorum said, “Well, these things happen. It’s just a matter of people getting to know a candidate better and having second thoughts. To most voters out there, most of these candidates are very new so they don’t know much about them, and these races are an opportunity to find out.”
He continued, “The grass is always greener on the other side. Well, we like this guy. He looks like he is going to be better.,” adding, “Issues ultimately are going to matter. In particular in Iowa they will matter. People are very concerned about making sure we have a reliable conservative.”
On his own campaign prospects, he added, “My intention is to get to the Iowa caucuses. Remember, I was at 1 percent four years ago on a poll that was taken today and I ended up winning the Iowa caucus and that was a month earlier. So, I’m not looking at anything until we get to the finish line.”
