WASHINGTON – Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hawked her book, during a bizarre answer at Thursday’s House Benghazi Committee hearing.
Clinton said that she has an entire chapter in her book “Hard Choices” about the administration’s failed response to the Benghazi attack, after a congressman asked her why she blamed the Benghazi attack on spontaneous reaction to a Youtube video called “Innocence of Muslims” instead of terrorism. Clinton’s book plug was followed by an attempt to explain her reliance on the video.
“I needed to be talking about the video because I needed to put other governments on notice that they were not going to get away with attacking us,” Clinton said, noting that anti-video protests were cropping up in other countries.
But Clinton maintained that: “We were not making up the intelligence. We were trying to get it, to make sense of it, and to share it” and that “we did the best that we could with the information that we had at the time…I’m sorry it doesn’t fit your narrative, congressman.”
Clinton, 67, also said that it’s very hard to get good intelligence because “you have to monitor social media for goodness sakes. That’s where the Ansar al Sharia claim was placed.”
The congressman pointed out that she told her own family and also the Egyptian prime minister and Libyan president that it was a terrorist attack and the Youtube video talking point was not true. As Breitbart News reported, the Obama administration first tried to blame the attack on a different Youtube video before settling on “Innocence of Muslims.”
