Republican presidential candidate former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee argued it’s “as ridiculous as saying that George Bush had something to do with Hurricane Katrina” to say that former President George W. Bush had anything to do with 9/11 on Tuesday’s “Intelligence Report with Trish Regan” on the Fox Business Network.
Huckabee stated, [relevant remarks begin around 2:15] “I think it’s nonsense to in any way even intimate, even remotely, that George Bush has anything to do with the fact that we had a 9/11 attack. That’s as ridiculous as saying that George Bush had something to do with Hurricane Katrina. A president responds to the issue, but he he can’t always predict them, and he certainly can’t always prevent them. And it would be just as fair to say Bill Clinton could have done something.”
When asked if Bush could have prevented the attack with better immigration enforcement, Huckabee said, “It’s arguable. But you could say that Bill Clinton had been president eight years before. George Bush had only been president for barely eight months. So, was it all his fault that in eight months he hadn’t completely solved that problem? Look, I just think that it’s not a valid argument to make, and he’s trying to kind of walk it back in a gentle way.”
