Peyton Manning has donated $2,700 to the presidential campaign of Republican Jeb Bush. Manning’s younger brother Eli donated the same amount to Bush during the summer. The second-generation NFL quarterbacks depart from their father Archie, who has spoken on behalf of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, in supporting the third-generation politician.
The former Florida governor has been campaigning in the old SEC stomping grounds of the Manning brothers. Although the conference ultimately prevailed upon Bush to abandon a mock SEC logo, the candidate campaigned at last Saturday’s Tennessee-Georgia game and looks to travel to Tuscaloosa for next month’s Alabama-LSU clash. Peyton Manning quarterbacked the Volunteers, who beat the Bulldogs in an upset last week, before the Indianapolis Colts picked him first in the 1998 NFL Draft.
Manning’s political giving date backs almost a decade. His donations uniformly support Republicans.
Manning gave most of his money to politicians from the state where he played college football. Fred Thompson, Lamar Alexander, and Bob Corker all received individual contributions of more than $2,000 from Manning. Corker received five four-figure donations from Manning over the years.
Manning poured $10,000 into the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney during the 2012 election cycle.
