Sen. Marco Rubio’s campaign is boasting it has more cash on hand than former Florida Governor Jeb Bush — even though Bush out-raised Rubio substantially in the third quarter.
“Thanks to smart budgeting and fiscal discipline, Marco Rubio for President started October with more money in the bank than Jeb Bush for President and most other campaigns,” Rubio’s campaign informed reporters in a statement.
Bush is currently leading the Republican field with total fundraising numbers, reporting a massive $13 million haul in their FEC report. But Bush only has $10.3 million in cash on hand.
Rubio raised only $6 million last quarter but has nearly $11 million cash on hand. The campaign boasted that they used UberX for campaign transportation and used budget airlines for campaign travel.
A Bush campaign source, however, told Breitbart News that cash on hand includes money raised for both the primary campaign and the general presidential campaign in his numbers.
The source revealed that Bush’s total includes only about $270,000 raised for the general election, suggesting Rubio’s was higher. The Rubio campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
In spite of both campaigns bickering about the numbers, both Rubio and Bush are losing to Sen. Ted Cruz’s $13.5 million in cash on hand as well as Carson’s 11.5 million cash on hand.
Carson also raised $20 million in the third quarter, more than Bush and Rubio combined. Cruz reported raising 12 million.
