President Barack Obama managed to squeeze two rounds of golf into his busy schedule on Sunday and Monday during his latest fundraising stint in California.
Meanwhile, matters of national security related to war-torn Syria’s severe refugee crisis and Iran’s parliament officially ratifying an outline of the controversial and now-historic Joint-Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)– otherwise known as the Iran nuclear deal–took a back seat to the drought-stricken Golden State’s luscious greens.
According to local NBC affiliate in San Diego, President Obama shot a round of golf at Torrey Pines in La Jolla on Sunday, where he happened to come upon a couple that was preparing to exchange vows later that same day.
On Monday, he reportedly arrived at The Crosby in Rancho Sante Fe just before 8 a.m. where he spent “several hours” golfing before driving to the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar. There, he took “some time” to shake hands with and greet families and members of the armed services before boarding Air Force One and taking off that same afternoon.
Obama attended four fundraisers during his long holiday weekend visit to the Bay Area, Los Angeles and San Diego. The fundraiser in San Francisco was hosted by rapper Kanye West, who has said he will run for president in 2020, to which Obama reportedly quipped, “you may have heard about how Kanye is thinking about running…for Speaker of the House. It couldn’t get any stranger.”
NBC notes that Obama’s last visit to San Diego took place in May of 2014, where he attended a fundraiser at the home of Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs.
