On Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” host Chuck Todd noted Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s policy changes to make her seem more progressive, using examples of a policy change on same-sex marriage, tough prison sentencing, the keystone pipeline and speaking out against the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Todd brought up CNN’s calculation of 45 times that Clinton has “pushed and praised” theTrans-Pacific Partnership, as well as an excerpt from Clinton’s book “Hard Choices,” where she called it the “signature economic pillar of our strategy in Asia.”
“The problem, to borrow a recent political cliche, she was for it before she was against it. and really for it. As CNN calculated a few months ago, Clinton pushed and praised the TPP trade deal on at least 45 separate occasions. In fact, in her book ‘Hard Choices,’ just published last year, she said this, ‘The TPP became the signature economic pillar of our strategy in Asia.'”
