Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson addressed the controversy over his statement regarding the Oregon shooting, stating, “they didn’t show the whole question” on Wednesday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.
Carson stated, “they’ve tried to paint me as somebody who is insensitive because, you know, they didn’t ask — they didn’t show the whole question. I was asked the question, what would you do, if you were in Oregon and they were pointing a gun at you asking you about your faith? And I said what I would do. … Now, they didn’t include the question. They just, you know, added the answer to try to make it seem like I was insensitive and that I was critical.”
He added that “if we plant the seed in people’s minds” that they should fight back against shooters, they will.
Regarding Planned Parenthood, Carson stated, “I think the American people are starting to see through this, and I’m incredibly gratified that they are, where we have this — the wagons being circled, because they feel that they’re under attack, the secular progressive movement, and they don’t like the fact that the people are actually starting to say, wait a minute, this is America, and we have our set of values, and we’re willing to stand up for them. And when people like me represent that kind of voice, boy, are they getting concerned.”
Carson also argued, “There’s an incredible double standard” between how racist criticisms of him and President Obama are treated.
Carson also addressed a National Enquirer story about malpractice claims brought against him, saying, “It’s pretty astonishing, and some of those cases never went anywhere. And one of the cases, the lead case in that article, you know, they’ve been threatening for years. They said, somehow, you guys have got to pay us money, or we’re going to the media, and we’re going to ruin your career. What a bunch of crap. I don’t bother with that stuff.”
