Vice President Joe Biden met with Obama for lunch today as he weighs the biggest decision of his political career. Should he cede the Democratic presidential race to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or get in the race?
The White House remained quiet about the lunch, as the White House Press Secretary described it as a “typical weekly get-together” for the two leaders who both have busy political schedules.
According to Politico’s Mike Allen, “super-close” sources to the Biden family said that the family would make a decision about the race this weekend, with a campaign announcement early next week.
Obama and White House staffers have been cautious when speaking about a potential candidacy, purposefully trying not to show any favorites between Clinton and Biden.
“I love Joe Biden, and he’s got his own decisions to make, and I’ll leave it at that,” Obama said during a press conference last week. “And in the meantime, he’s doing a great job as Vice President and has been really helpful on a whole bunch of issues.”
The next time they meet for lunch, Biden might be a candidate for president.
