GOP frontrunner Donald Trump maintains his lead in the early Republican primary states of New Hampshire and Iowa, according to new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls conducted after the second GOP primary debate and Gov. Scott Walker’s withdrawal.

Trump holds a five-point lead over fellow GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina in New Hampshire.

Donald Trump = 21 percent

Carly Fiorina = 16 percent

Jeb Bush = 11 percent

Marco Rubio = 10 percent

Ben Carson = 10 percent

Although Trump remains in the lead, his edge has decreased since last month when Trump had a 16-point lead in New Hampshire over second place, which at that time belonged to Gov. John Kasich.

In Iowa, it is Dr. Ben Carson who is behind the GOP frontrunner by five points.

Donald Trump = 24 percent

Dr. Ben Carson = 19 percent

Carly Fiorina = 8 percent

Jeb Bush = 7 percent

Ted Cruz = 6 percent

Marco Rubio = 6 percent

Bobby Jindal = 6 percent

In the same poll taken one month ago, Trump led Carson by seven points.

The NBC/WSJ/Marist polls were conducted between September 23rd and 30th. In Iowa, the margin of error was plus or minus 4.7 percent, and in New Hampshire it was plus or minus 4.6 percent.
